Parental Mirrors

I see me now in the mirror of my children

Grown but close in contact and conversation

Each exhibits behaviors that are familiar

And for me now, not all that desirable

It is I, at the time of life where they are now

And what I see takes me back

Not that they are not innately intelligent

Not that they are not industrious and energetic

It is behaviors that I see, all too familiar

Behaviors that I've spent time altering

Twenty years hence, they will reflect

Good but in need of changing
